Civil Designer

Stantec, Minneapolis, MN

Jun 2026 – Present

In this role, I support a wide range of water resources and environmental design projects that combine engineering analysis, civil design, geospatial analysis, permitting, regulatory review, and field survey work. My role allows me to contribute across multiple stages of a project, from initial watershed assessment, concept design, data collection through design, plan production, permitting, bidding, construction specs preparations, and on-site construction supervision.

  • Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling – Developing and evaluating models using XPSWMM, HydroCAD, and HY-8 to analyze stormwater runoff, drainage systems, culvert hydraulics, and conveyance capacity.
  • GIS and Watershed Analysis – Using GIS for spatial analysis, watershed and drainage area delineation, data interpretation, and map production to support engineering studies, planning efforts, and technical reports.
  • Stormwater and Civil Design – Supporting the design of stormwater conveyance systems and best management practices (BMPs) to address drainage, runoff management, erosion control, and water quality objectives.
  • Bid Packages and Specifications – Assisting with the preparation of bid packages, technical specifications, construction documents, and supporting materials used to advance projects from design into bidding and construction.
  • Civil 3D Plan Production – Preparing engineering plans and design documents in Civil 3D as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Project Permitting – Supporting permit preparation and coordination for engineering projects, including compiling technical information, plans, calculations, and documentation needed to obtain applicable regulatory approvals.
  • Water Quality Analysis – Performing water quality modeling and field sampling to evaluate existing conditions and support water resources and environmental projects.
  • Field Investigations and Inspections – Conducting stormwater and erosion control inspections, field surveys, and site assessments to collect data, document site conditions, and support engineering decisions.
  • Technical Documentation – Preparing technical reports, memoranda, calculations, maps, and supporting documentation that communicate engineering analyses, design decisions, findings, and recommendations.
ImpactWorking across both technical tasks and field assignments gives me the opportunity to understand projects from multiple perspectives. Whether I am developing a hydraulic model, analyzing a watershed in GIS, preparing design plans and specifications, supporting project permitting, reviewing regulatory submittals, or collecting field data, my focus is on helping develop practical, technically sound, and environmentally responsible water resources solutions for communities and clients throughout the Midwest.
Tools I use frequently on this role

XPSWMM, HydroCAD, HY-8, MIDS, P8, Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS Pro and BlueBeam Revu.

Graduate Research Assistant

STORM Group, University of Minnesota Duluth, Duluth, MN

Aug 2024 – May 2026

Built a HYDRUS-2D model of how sewers and soil profiles shape urban hydrology; field sampling with the City of Duluth.

  • Developed a physically based, data-driven hydrologic model in HYDRUS-2D to investigate how urban sewers and soil profiles affect surface–subsurface hydrology.
  • Conducted field surveys to collect soil samples at multiple depths near sewer pipes and performed hydraulic profiling of the samples.
  • Coordinated with the City of Duluth, contractors, the principal investigator and collaborators to keep the project on schedule.
  • Mentored an undergraduate group member in data analysis, model development and presentation.
